‘Babu involved in trafficking 1,000 girls to India’

A member of a women trafficking gang was involved in trafficking nearly 1,000 young girls to India, police said.

The trafficker, Mehedi Hasan Babu, gave the confession after police arrested him along with his two accomplices -- Mohiuddin and Quader -- in Satkhira on Tuesday night.

Mohammad Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Crime Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), disclosed the information while briefing reporters at his office on Wednesday.

He said police arrested the traffickers after a victim, who managed to return to Bangladesh recently, filed a case against 12 traffickers with Hatirjheel police station in the capital. She was held hostage for 77 days in India.

The officer said they had information that five out of 12 accused were staying in our country. On that information, police arrested the three while they were trying to arrest two others.

He also said police would try to bring the remaining seven accused in India to bring to book with the help of the Indian police.

The DC said they seized a diary and a mobile phone set from Babu.

The seized things specified that Babu was involved in trafficking about 1,000 young girls, including the plaintiff of the case, to India.

He has been committing the crime for the last seven to eight years.

A Bangladeshi youth gang has raped a young girl, 23, in Bangaluru in India recently.

They videoed the scene and spread on the social media, which went viral. Later, Indian police arrested four rapists —TikTok Hridoy, Sagor, Baba Sheikh and Hakil with two women.  On May 27, father of the victim filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station in this regard.

The DC said that Babu had a link with TikTok Hridoy, Sagor, Sabuj, Dalim and Rubel, who are the members of the gang and are now in India.

About Mohiuddin and Abdul Quader, the officer said they kept about 500 young girls in their so-called safe houses in Satkhira and handed them over to the members of the gang in India.

Quoting the victim who filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on Tuesday, the police officer said in 2019, the victim girl had acquainted with TikTok Hridoy, who was arrested by India police and sustained bullet injuries in one of his legs, on Madhubagh Bridge in Hatirjheel Lake in the capital.

According to the officer, TikTok Hridoy allured her of making ‘TikTok Start’.

He took 70 to 80 young boys and girls, including her, to Adventure Land Park in Narayanganj in February, 2020 for making videos for TikTok, a social media site.

On September 18 that year, Hridoy held a so-called Pool Party with 700 to 800 young boys and girls at Afrin Garden in Gazipur. She was also present in the party.  On February 19, she was asked that she would be taken to Shrine of Lalon Shah in Kushtia. She left her residence for Kushtia, but Hridoy with the help of some other members of the gang trafficked her to India through Satkhira.

After taking to Anandapur in Bangaluru, she was kept at several houses with some other victims who were trafficked from Bangladesh.

After that, the victim girl was kept at Oyo Hotel in Chennai where inhumane torture was carried out on her for 10 days.  She was raped and the scenes were videoed.

The girl said one girl, 23, whose video went viral, helped the plaintiff of the case and two other girls to return to Bangladesh.

The officer said that they were tarrying to contact with two other returnees.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four gang members, including the ringleader, on Monday and Tuesday for trafficking young girls to India from Jhenaidah and Jashore.

They are Ashraful Islam alias Ashraful Mandal alias Boss Rafi, 30, the ring leader of the racket, and his three associates-- Sahida Begum alias Madam Sahida, 46, Ismail, 38, and Abdur Rahman Sheikh alias Arman Sheikh, 26.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director (Legal and Media Wing) of the RAB, said the four traffickers trafficked about 500 young girls to India in the name of making TikTok models and giving good jobs there.
