Professor Dr Faridul Alam, former head of Department of Pediatrics at Chittagong Mother and Child Care Hospital, died from coronavirus infections at a hospital in the port city on Sunday night.
Faridul, hailing from Lohagara upazila, breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chittagong Maternal and Child Care Hospital around 11:30 pm, the hospital's director (administration) Nurul Haque said.He said, Faridul Alam, a student of batch 17 of Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), was admitted to the hospital a month ago after contracting the virus.
He was suffering from various complications, the director also said.
Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury, general secretary of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) in Chattogram, confirmed the news.
With the death of Faridul, a total of 24 doctors died from Covid-19 in Chattogram till now and a total of 165 physicians died from the deadly virus in the country so far, he said.
