Bangladesh national football team head coach Jamie Day was frustrated after their tour of Saudi Arabia was cancelled at the very last minute on Monday.
The men in red and green were scheduled to complete a five or six-day training camp in Saudi Arabia before their FIFA, AFC joint qualifiers in Qatar next month but they failed to get any confirmation on their quarantine relaxation from Saudi Arabia Football Federation till Monday morning that forced them to abort the tour.
“They (players) are not happy at all. Waking up in the morning and getting to know about the tour cancellation; it’s not acceptable and it’s disappointing,” Jamie told reporters at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, as the players took part in a practice session instead of travelling to Saudi Arabia.
“Now, we need to make a solution for how we get preparations back. But we’re not happy with what happened today,” he added.
Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin blamed the present Covid-19 situation for the awkward incident.
“Saudi Arabia FF appealed to their government about the quarantine relaxation for Bangladesh football team. The decision was up to them. None of us is responsible for the awkward incident. None of us can control due to the present Covid-19 situation,” Salahuddin explained.
