Operational success of the Bangladesh Peacekeeping Force against armed terrorists in Mali

Bangladesh Army’s Contingent Bangladesh Battalion (BANBAT-7, MINUSMA), 34 BIR, engaged in the UN peacekeeping mission in Gao province of Mali and was on duty in Sector East.

The contingent was tasked from May 20 – 26 to provide an escort to a UN logistics convoy from Gao to Menaka. On May 22, while the convoy was at a distance of 230 km from Gao, a number of 8-10 armed miscreants suddenly came in using motorcycles and started firing.

In response, Bangladesh peacekeepers bravely retaliated by attacking the terrorists. The miscreants were forced to flee in the face of strong resistance from Bangladesh peacekeepers.

Bangladeshi peacekeepers are universally praised for this heroic and courageous action.

Mentionable that, it was possible to bring the situation under control without any casualties due to the strategic skill and offensive activities of the Bangladesh Peacekeepers.
