3 sisters drown in Jamuna River

Three cousins drowned in Jamuna River at Saghata upazila of Gaibandha district at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Bithi Khatun, Ritu Khatun, daughter of Saidur Rahman of Kachua area of the upazila, and Anamika Sarwar alias Fatema, daughter of Late Rana Mia of Babu Para in Rangpur City. They are maternal cousins in relation.

Acting Station Officer of Saghata Fire Service Abdul Hamid said Anamika Sarwar alias Fatema came to visit her maternal uncle's house at Kachua area of ​​Saghata upazila from Rangpur a few days ago. At around 2 pm, Bithi, Ritu and Anamika set out for Char on a boat trip on the river Jamuna near the Saghata police station building. At one stage they fell off the boat into the water and drowned. Later, when the boatman shouted, the people in the vicinity and the boatmen dropped their nets and rescued them in critical condition.

Later, they were taken to Saghata Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead. Their bodies have been kept in the health complex. The process is underway to hand over bodies to the family.
