DNCC mayor stresses tougher action to contain spread of Covid-19

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam has stressed tougher action to contain spread of Covid-19 with situation taking a serious turn.

Around 65 lakh people left Dhaka for village homes to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones inviting a perilous situation, he said.

The authorities concerned have to be bound going tough on the health rule violators in the post-Eid context, he added.

Atiqul Islam made the statements as he visited DNCC dedicated Covid-19 hospital in Mohakhali, Kurmitola General Hospital and Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital on Friday. He exchanged views and Eid pleasantries with doctors, nurses, health workers and security personnel.

He claimed to have been working for welfare of the city dwellers as a normal serviceman, remaining oblivious to his position.

Acknowledging service of physicians and other staffs of hospitals during pandemic period, he tendered thanks to them on behalf of DNCC.

He presented them with gift and food items.

He also called for public awareness to destroy mosquito breeding grounds to withstand a possible hit from dengue.
