The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has brought 3500,000 doses of vaccine from Russia to prevent foot and mouth disease of cattle.
Department of Livestock Services (DLS) has imported these vaccines under the Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) disease eviction and Foot and Mouth disease prevention project.And these medicines are already distributed to the districts where most number of cattle farms is situated, said a press release issued by the DLS.
According to DLS, 967,500 does of vaccines are sent to Pabna. Besides, Sirajganj, Manikganj, and Bhola district got 10,67,500 doses of vaccines, 670,000 doses of vaccines and 795,000 doses of vaccines respectively.
Fisheries and livestock minister Advocate SM Rezaul Karim said, “It is very important to prevent Foot and Mouth disease of cattle to ensure profit of cattle farmers and export of animal products to global markets.”
“A significant number of cows, goats, buffaloes and sheep will be vaccinated which will assist the farmers to reduce their loss during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” he added.
It is mentionable that Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is one of the most infectious diseases for cattle. It takes a heavy toll on the cattle farmers every year.
