Bangladesh pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson will not be available in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, said a Bangladesh Cricket Board official on Wednesday.

Gibson went back to England on leave straight from Sri Lanka after guiding the pace bowlers in the just concluded two-match Test series that Bangladesh lost by 0-1 margin against the hosts.

“Gibson will not be available as he will be on leave during the ODI series against Sri Lanka,” BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told The Daily Sun.

“We are expecting him to be available ahead of the tour of Zimbabwe (in June),” he added.

Meanwhile, BCB announced the itinerary for the home series against Sri Lanka on the same day and according to it, Sri Lanka is scheduled to arrive on May 16 and after a three-day hotel quarantine, they will start their preparation from May 19.

Bangladesh squad members will play an intra-squad practice game on May 20 at BKSP while Sri Lanka will play a practice match at the same venue on the following day.

The three ODIs are scheduled to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on May 23, 25 and 28 respectively with all the matches being day-night affairs.

Several members of Bangladesh preliminary squad took part in the practice session on Wednesday at the SBNS and Soumya Sarkar insisted that he is looking forward to the home series against Sri Lanka leaving their disappointing New Zealand tour behind.

“You see, any match is important for Bangladesh. So there is no point in thinking about what has happened in New Zealand and it is better to think ahead. We need to learn from mistakes and work on them,” he said.

“We are playing at home and expect to do well here,” he said, adding that the presence of Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman in the series will bolster their strength.

“When Shakib bhai plays, there are always two sides, so it is definitely a big plus for the team. And we saw Mustafizur bowling very well in the IPL so of course, it would be a very good side for the team that they are both coming back together and hopefully they will both do well in the series,” he added.
