BCB to help domestic cricketers

Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Saturday that they will provide financial incentive worth TK Two crore among 1720 cricket players in the ongoing corona pandemic.

“The Board’s initiative, covering 1432 men and 288 women players, was taken at the advice of BCB President Nazmul Hassan, MP as a token of support to cricketers affected by the disruption to domestic competitions due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” BCB said in a press release.

“The players selected to receive the incentive are from various domestic events under the jurisdiction of the Board including the Dhaka Premier League, Dhaka First, Second and Third Division leagues, Women’s National, Emerging and Under 19 teams, Women’s National Cricket League, Premier Division and First Division leagues,” it added.

All kinds of domestic tournaments in the country are on hold due to the second wave of Covid-19 and though the board had managed to host two newly-introduced domestic tournaments - BCB President's Cup and Bangabandhu T20 Cup, BCB had to postpone the NCL after two rounds due to the rise of coronavirus in the country.

BCB decided to host DPL from May 6 but in the present context that is highly unlikely and now they are eyeing to start it from May 30 if the clubs agree and if a bio-bubble can be set up.

Bangladesh women’s national team cricketers, who are under BCB’s contract, will also be the beneficiary of the financial assistance while the men’s national team cricketers under BCB’s contract, won’t be eligible for the assistance.
