Footballer Ziban stuck in India

National forward of Dhaka Abahani Limited Nabib Newaz Ziban, who went to India for a ligament repair surgery, is facing complications to return here after Bangladesh government announced to shut the borders with the neighbouring country for two weeks from Monday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the announcement on Sunday to prevent the spread of the new Covid-19 variant of India.

Dhaka Abahani Ltd are taking all possible initiatives to get their captain Ziban back, team manager Satyajit Das Rupu told the reporters on Sunday.

“The flights are closed, but he can come by road. The border is open, we still have a chance to get him back.We will send our official at Benapole to get him back. If it fails, Ziban have to wait in Kolkata until the border opens,” Rupu added.

Ziban got a serious ligament injury during the national team's campaign for two-match Mujib Borsho FIFA Tier-1 International Friendly Series against Nepal held in Dhaka last November.
After recovering he took part in Federation Cup, but ruled out after playing their first match of Premier League. Since then he had been out of the field for more than three months.

The Abahani captain likely to miss their AFC Cup qualifying play-offs (preliminary round 2) against Club Eagles. Abahani are expected to host the match on May 2/3.
