The first director of the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Center, Prof Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Shamsuzzaman has died of coronavirus or Covid-19.
He died at Sheikh Russell National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital in the capital around 7:00am on Saturday.Prof Faruk Ahmed, director of the hospital, confirmed this information.
Dr Shamsuzzaman's lungs were damaged. Besides, he also had been suffering from diabetes, pressure and obesity, said Prof Faruk.
He was first admitted to the cabin of the hospital on April 10 after he was diagnosed with coronavirus. Later, he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Prof Dr Shamsuzzaman was serving as director from the beginning of the National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Center. The institute has been playing an important role in sample testing since the begining of Covid-19 infection.
He was also the director of the CDC and the director of the Institute of Epidemiology and Disease Control (IEDCR).
