Faridpur couple fined for multiple Covid tests using fake identities

A couple was fined Tk 20,000 on Friday for undergoing the Covid-19 test multiple times using fake identities in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur.

The accused have been identified as Hafizur Rahman (38), an official of Prime Bank, and his wife Tayeba Akhter Mila (28).

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Jhotan Chanda conducted the mobile court operation.

According to sources, the couple first went through Covid-19 test on 5 April using their real name. The result of Mila came out positive the following day while Hafizur's result was negative.

Later, both of them conducted Covid-19 tests again changing their names to Ripon Khan and Nila Begum. Both tested positive on that occasion.

On April 21, they again went back to their real identities and submitted samples at the same health complex. Both their results came back positive again.

However, Khaledur Rahman, an upazila health official figured out the entire fiasco after calling them multiple times in the last few days.

Today, the mobile court raided their house and fined them under the Infectious Disease Act (Control, Prevention and Eradication).

Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Jhotan Chanda, the man behind the raid, confirmed the news.
