Police HQ rejects harassment of people amid lockdown as claimed by social media activists

Police headquarters have rejected a contention of a section of social media activists that people are being harassed by law enforcers amid lockdown.

Besides, running news by a section of newspapers and TVs claiming harassment of people at the hand of law enforcers is creating confusion, said police HQ.

In a statement, it said 91 officers and other members of police died of corona till April 16. They were infected with the virus while discharging duties. Many members of police are on PRL and retirement. Of them, many have died of the dreaded virus. If they are included in the list, the death toll will be higher.

Police HQ said many people are abusing movement pass to come out of home without valid reasons.

It is very hard for law enforcers to know valid outsiders prompting them to go for serious interrogation and scrutiny of documents.

Sometimes, police intercepted some public servants leaving work stations violating the government order. The law enforcers also found some cars falsely bearing sticker of physicians while vehicles for emergency purpose being abused for carrying gift items. Meanwhile, many outsiders fell in altercation with law enforcers without valid reasons, police HQ said.

Interrogation of outsiders and checking of papers by police should not be regarded as harassment, it added.
