The Sri Lanka-bound Test cricketers will be unavailable for the third round of the ongoing National Cricket League, the country’s traditional first-class tournament, due to the rise of coronavirus, said a Bangladesh Cricket Board official on Wednesday.
The third round of NCL is scheduled for April 5 and the matches will be played at the BKSP and in Cox’s Bazar in a bio-bubble environment.
Some of the members of the Test squad are currently in New Zealand taking part in the limited-over series while others who are available in Bangladesh took part in the first two rounds of NCL.
A few of them however missed the chance to prepare for Sri Lanka, for the two-match Test series, after testing Covid-19 positive.
“The Test probables will be unavailable in the third round of NCL as the corona is rising and we can’t take any chance with them at the moment,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told The Daily Sun.
Minhajul said that he is hopeful to get Tamim Iqbal in Sri Lanka during the series despite the ODI skipper is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.
