Defending champions Bashundhara Kings will start their campaign in the 4th edition of Women’s Football League taking on newcomers Soddopushkarini Jubo Sporting Club in the opening match on Wednesday at 4 pm.
The league will be held at Birshrestha Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur, confirmed Bangladesh Football Federation on Sunday.Kings will play their next matches against Kachijhuli Sporting Club on April 4 at 5:30 pm and FC Brahmanbaria on April 9 at 1:30 pm.
This year, a total of 8 teams will take part in the league. Other five teams are: Eunners-up Nasrin Sporting Academy, Kacharipara Ekados Unnayan Sangstha, Comilla United, Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College Sporting Club.
Last year, Kings clinched the title in their first appearance in the 3rd WFL 2020. The big-budgeted club maintained all win records and bagged full 36 points with 12 consecutive wins from 12 matches while their nearest competitor and second-placed Nasrin Sports Academy earned 30 points from 10 wins and 2 defeats.
Kings, who eyeing on retaining title, formed a 23-member team signing seven newcomers. The star sturded club retained 15 players from previous squad including national team captain and top scorer of the previous league Sabina Khatun, U-19 captain Mishrat Jahan Mousumi, Krishna Rani Sarkar, Tohura Khatun, Monika Chakma, Shamsunnahar and Maria Manda will continue with the team.
