Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest business conglomerate, has come forward with financial assistance for treatment of several children suffering from congenital heart diseases.
Sanjida Akter is the first child to have received modern treatment of Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute in Dhaka.The six-year old girl was suffering from the heart disease and breathing problem and her parents were in a fix.
She has received modern surgery at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute under the financial support of the Bashundhara Group.
Dr Md Rokonuzzaman Selim, cardiac surgeon of the hospital, along with other doctors conducted the surgery without opening chest of the girl.
VSD is an abnormal hole in the heart that forms between the heart's lower pumping chambers. This allows oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood to mix.
Around 30,000 babies are born in Bangladesh with congenital heart diseases every year. Only 2,000 children afford operation leaving others deprived of treatment.
Bashundhara Group has been extending financial support for the treatment of children and other people since long.This time, the company has taken responsibility of the treatment of three-year girl Ayesha also.
Physicians said other corporate houses and affluent people in the society should play positive role in saving lives of the children suffering from congenital cardiac diseases.
