16 hurt in Bagerhat election violence

At least sixteen people were injured in a clash between supporters of two union parishad member candidates in Bagerhat's Sadar Upazila on Thursday night.

The incident took place around 11:15pm as the supporters of Awami League (AL) backed member candidate Ahed Mostafa Bappi Sheikh for Dema union ward-7 and the rival member candidate Sajib for the same ward locked into clashes, leaving at least 16 people from both sides injured.

Bagerhat Additional Superintendent of Police Mir Shafin Mahmud said "a clash ensued between two rival groups in the area over establishing supremacy."

Mentioning that they are investigating into the incident, he said action will be taken against those who are responsible.
