The death toll from Covid-19 surged past 2.6 million on Wednesday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
The total case count globally stood at 117,537,686 while the total death toll climbed to 2,609,992 as of Wednesday morning.The total Covid-19 cases in the US which remains the world’s worst-hit country crossed 29 million. The country’s caseload reached 29,093,946 and the death toll mounted to 527,643.
Brazil on Tuesday saw the record high daily Covid-19 deaths at 1,972 in 24 hours, bringing the national toll to 268,370.
Meanwhile, the country reported 70,764 new COVID-19 cases, taking the nationwide tally to 11,122,429, said the Ministry of Health in Brazil.
Brazil has the second highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the world, after the United States, and the third highest number of cases, behind the United States and India.
Besides, India’s total caseload reached 11,244,786 and the fatalities 157,930 until Wednesday morning.
