Bajaj Auto’s recent recognition as the world’s most valuable maker of Two-wheeler with the market capitalisation crossing USD 13.6 Billions is unlikely to surprise many in Bangladesh given it’s undisputed leadership in Bangladesh Two-wheeler market backed with strong association with Bangladesh’s reputed Uttara Motors Ltd. Here are excerpts from an interview with Mr. Milind P Bade, Vice President, International Business, Bajaj Auto Ltd, India

Q: Bajaj has just become the most valuable Two-Wheeler Company in the world. For such a leading company, how is Bangladesh as a market?

A: Bangladesh is a very important market for us and in fact one of the fastest growing Motorcycle market in the world. The Bangladeshi customer is a very evolved customer. He is extremely brand conscious and demanding in terms of performance and safety. Bajaj is committed to deliver world-class products to our customers backed with best-in-class customer service.

Q: Tell us about your partner in Bangladesh for Bajaj Motorcycles, Uttara Motors Ltd.

A: Bajaj Motorcycles & Uttara Motors together have been the leaders in Bangladesh market with our share on an increasing path for last few years. And the fact that Bajaj is able to meet the customer’s expectations, we enjoy a dominant leadership in Bangladesh. Uttara motors have built & nurtured the Bajaj Motorcycles brand in Bangladesh. Relationship between Bajaj Auto Ltd and Uttara Motors Ltd is more than 4 decades now and we are proud of association with Uttara Motors. Ltd.

Q: What is Bajaj Motorcycles’ future plans for Bangladesh market?

A: As I said before, it is one of the most important market for us. Our partner, Uttara Motors Ltd has built a state-of-art manufacturing facility at Savar, near Dhaka where we can manufacture more than 2,50,000 units per year including high-end motorcycles. We are also very hopeful that the government will consider the removal of cubic capacity bar in Bangladesh. Bringing the latest technology and motorcycle models for the Bangladeshi customer is our top priority. We will continue to exhibit our customer-centric approach in every walk of business.

Q: We learnt that Bajaj Auto has completed 75 Years in business, how has this journey been?

A: The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Founded in 1926, at the height of India’s movement for independence, the Group has an illustrious history. Bajaj Auto is the world’s third largest manufacturer of motorcycles and the largest manufacturer of three wheelers. The journey of Bajaj Auto began 75 years ago in India and today its brands like Pulsar, Boxer, Platina and RE are popular in over 70 countries around the world making it truly ‘The World’s Favourite Indian’. The global footprint is being continuously expanded with entry into Thailand this year and a proposed entry into Brazil next year.
