Education ministry rejects VC Kalimullah's allegation

The Education Ministry has said the allegation made by Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah is untrue, fabricated, baseless and motivated.

The Education Ministry has rebuffed Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) Vice Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah for making untrue, fabricated, baseless and motivated statements.

Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah has tried to spread confusion in public mind at a time when UGC report on his irregularities is pending with concerned authorities, says education ministry at a statement.

A press statement was issued by the education ministry hours after BRUR VC’s news conference on Thursday.

In terms of various irregularities and corruption in BRUR, the Education Ministry asked for probe report. Being an autonomous regulating body, University Grants Commission (UGC) held the investigation and submitted report to the ministry.

There is no scope for making any influence by the ministry or minister in this process as UGC is autonomous institution, said education ministry statement.

Earlier, Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah at a press conference accused Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni of not maintaining time in holding meeting with vice-chancellors of public universities. He also alleged that UGC prepared report against him at the behest of the ministry.

About delay in attending meeting with VCs, education ministry clarified that the delay was something to do with a previous meeting the minister, secretary and others had to attend.

The education minister preferred to hold a meeting on fixation of unified criteria for teacher appointment in public universities held on February 19 last year before sitting with the vice chancellors in the afternoon, the statement added.
