Ruling Awami League nominated candidates have bagged mayoral posts in most of the 55 municipalities under the fourth phase of polls.
The voting began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm on Sunday. Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was used in 29 municipalities while regular ballot papers in the rest of the places.
Awami League candidate Golam Kibria Liton has won mayoral polls in Sherpur of Mymensingh, Lutfur Rahman in Kanaighat of Sylhet, Rashedul Islam Sweet in Patgram of Lalmonirhat, Nur Uddin Al-Mamun in Chowgacha of Jashore, Ayub Babul in Patia of Chattogram, Md Akbar Hossain Chowdhury in Rangamati, Md Musleh Uddin in Karimganj of Kishoreganj, Md Imrul Haque in Tanore municipality of Rajshahi, Mazedul Bari Nayan in Baraigram municipality of Natore, Bipul Chandra Howlader in Kalapara of Patuakhali, Rabeya Sultana in Kalai municipality of Joypurhat, Anjuman Ara Begum in Thakurgaon municipality,Takjil Khalifa Kajal in Akhaura municipality and Nazmul Alam Swapan in Kachua municipality of Chandpur.Besides, Awami League rebel candidate Rezaul Karim Swapon has become victorious in Lalmonirhat, party’s rebel candidate Alamgir Sheikh Titu in Rajbari and BNP nominated candidate Taskin Ahmed in Satkhira.
