Covid-19 vaccination: Govt to start spot registration for senior citizens

The government will start on-the-spot registration for the elderly people soon for Covid-19 vaccination, Secretary to the Health Services Division Md Abdul Mannan said on Saturday.

Mannan comes up with the upadte while replying to query from journalists when he was visiting the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) vaccination centre.

Earlier on Thursday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said there will be no on-the-spot registration.

"After vaccinating 35 lakh people, the statistics will be verified. Then, if the presence of village people is less, new steps will be taken to increase their interest," he said.

Mentioning more than five lakh people were vaccinated till Thursday, he said that about 14 lakh people have registered to receive the vaccine so far.

People, aged 40 and above, and frontliners are being vaccinated in the first phase of the nationwide drive.
