54 more held for harassing visitors at Hatirjheel

Police have arrested 54 more people for harassing visitors in Hatirjheel Lake and surrounding areas on Tuesday night.

AIG (Media and Public Relations) at the police headquarters Sohail Rana confirmed the matter to media on Wednesday.

After the verification, 43 of the detainees have been handed over to their guardians conditionally, he said, adding that a legal action has been taken against the rest 11 under the DMP Ordinance.

A total of 156 people have been detained so far, he further added.

On January 26, on the Facebook page run by the media and public relations wing of the police headquarters, a person alleged that some teenagers were harassing the people visiting Hatirjheel area.

Hatirjheel police were given a directive in this regard from the police headquarters. Since January 26, the police have been conducting regular raids in Hatirjheel and surrounding areas in uniform and white attire. The raids were carried out to keep the entertainment area uninterrupted and peaceful and to keep them free from any kind of harassment.
