5 die after drinking ‘toxic liquor’ in Bogura

Five people died and two others fell sick after drinking ‘toxic liquor’ in different areas of Bogura on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sumon Rabidas, 38, Ramzan Mia, 42, Saju, Mojahar and Abdul Jalil.

Ramnath Biswas, 55, and Premnath Rabidas, 60, are undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Quoting locals, Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar police station, said some people took the alcohol after purchasing it from a local shop on the occasion of marriage of Sumon’s younger brother Chanchal Rabidas on Sunday evening and fell sick afterwards.

Later that night, Ramzan Mia was taken to a local clinic as he felt sick and died at 11:30 pm while Sumon died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital at 4:00 am.

Moreover, Saju, Mojahar and Abdul Jalil died after taking alcohol in Kalitola area of the town on Sunday night.
