6 members of kidnapping gang held in city

A team of Detective Branch (North Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested six active members of a kidnapping gang from Dakshinkhan area of the capital.

The arrestees are identified as Md Sadekul Islam, Md Ifran, Mohammad Ali Rifat, Md Kutub Uddin, Md Mashum Rana and Golam Rabbi.

DB’s Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhter disclosed the matter at a press conference on Sunday afternoon.

The arrestees are accused in several cases in Uttara West, Uttara East and Airport police stations, Hafiz Akhter said.

The law enforcers arrested them while investigating a case filed over abducting one Anwarul Islam from Uttara.

Anwarul Islam was waiting for a bus on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Uttara’s House building area around 9:15 pm on November 29 last year. At that time, four to five people forcibly picked him in a microbus and took him in an unknown place.

Later, the kidnappers realised Tk 3.34 lakh ransom from his family through Bikash and left Anwarul in front of Lab Aid Hospital in Uttara.
