HC directs Kushtia SP to appear Jan 25 for misbehaving with magistrate

The High Court has ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure security of Bheramara municipality polls’ presiding officer for being a witness to Kushtia SP’s misbehaviour with a judicial magistrate.

Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, who discharged duty as presiding officer at Bheramara Pilot Model High School centre during second phase municipality polls on January 16, allegedly saw Kushtia SP misbehaving with senior judicial magistrate Mohsin Hasan.

Upazila youth development officer Shahjahan Ali appealed to the High Court seeking security of his whole family.

He alleged that police got some papers signed by him as the issue has taken a serious turn.

A division bench of the HC comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman directed IGP to ensure the security of Shahjahan.

However, Zahurul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, rejected the claim saying nobody collected signed statement of the presiding officer.

Senior judicial magistrate Mohsin Hasan filed a written compliant with the Election Commission accusing the SP of misbehaving with him. He also submitted a copy of the complaint to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, another bench of the HC directed Kushtia Superintendent of Police Tanvir Arafat to appear on January 25 in person to clarify the incident.
