The government will provide Covid-19 vaccine to the citizens free of cost from the first week of February, Health Secretary Md Abdul Mannan has said on Saturday.
He came up with the information while talking to reporters during a visit to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College & Hospital in Gazipur.“The government also will determine how the vaccine can be provided through the private sector,” Abdul Mannan said, adding “But vaccine from the private sector will not come before the government’s vaccination programme.”
Mentioning that the government is also looking into the possibility of manufacturing the vaccine in the country, he said the government will allow vaccine production if the interested local companies can follow the rules of the World Health Organization (WHO).
During the visit, the health secretary joined a view-exchange meeting on health services at the hospital’s meeting room.
Later, he also visited Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi and inspected different facilities and health services at the hospital. He expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of cleanliness at the hospital.
