Can’t be more proud, says Imrul Hassan

Bashundhara Kings president Imrul Hassan on Sunday said that he takes pride in the achievement of his club as they have successfully retained the Federation Cup title.

Country’s top tier outfit Kings, beat Saif Sporting Club Limited by 1-0 margin in the 32nd edition final of Walton Federation Cup at Bangabandhu National Stadium.

“I feel proud for them (Bashundhara Kings players and staff). We secure the Fed Cup title for consecutive time. We have also secured the play-off spot in the next AFC,” Imrul told The Daily Sun after their triumph in Federation Cup final.

“We had confidence in ourselves that we could defend the title. All the credit goes to my players, coaches and officials,” Imrul added.

Imrul, who is known to be the architect behind the rise of Bashundhara Kings, announced bonuses for the players, coaches and other officials for this memorable victory.

“All the players, coaches and officials will be awarded bonuses but I’ll not disclose the amount of the money at this moment. I’m also thankful to our fans for their passionate support,” he said.

Kings Argentine-born Chilean forward Raul Oscar Becerra netted the match-winning goal in the 52nd minute that made Kings champions for the second time.

Raul was adjudged the man of the final while Nigerian forward Ikechukwu Kenneth Ngwoke of Saif SC was adjudged the player of the tournament.

Both Raul and Ikechukwu shared the top scorer award netting five goals each.

Kings Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon said that he felt relieved after the victory.

“(I’m) Feeling relieved now. It was not possible to play positional game because of the condition. Therefore we went for more of a direct game, especially in the second half, overloading the back of opponent fullbacks to avoid their quick runs up in the offensive transitions.

“Plan worked well as a clinical pass from Robson behind their center backs was caught by Raul who scored the winner,” he added.
