Victory Day Hockey: Air Force, Navy make flying start

Air Force made a flying start in the Walton Victory Day Hockey beating last edition runners-up Sonali Bank Sports by 5-2 goals in the opening match at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Debashish Roy completed a hattrick scoring three goals while Sohanur Rahman and Md Arshad contributed one each for Air Force while Nayeem Uddin and Robi scored one each for Sonali Bank.

In the day’s other match, defending champions Navy outplayed Police by 7-2 goals at the same venue. Moinul Islam and Ashraful Islam netted two goals each while Fazle Hossain Rabbi, Khorshedur Rahman and Roman Sarker added one each for Navy. On the other side, Mohsin and Amirul Islam netted one each for Police. 

Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) organized the meet named after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Mujib Borsho. This year, five teams are taking part in the league basis meet. Top two teams will play the final at the same venue on Dec 26.

The sponsors Walton Group Executive Director (Games and Sports) FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn inaugurated the meet as the chief guest on Saturday at 3 pm. BHF vice-president and tournament committee chairman Zaki Ahmed Ripon, vice-president Sajed AA Adel and other members were present there.
