Govt to be tougher on the HR violators

The government will be tougher on the violators of human rights amid the corona pandemic, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.

He was addressing a dialogue titled “We will turn around, human rights for all” organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday.  The event was initiated marking Human Rights Day is observed on December 10 every year.

Speaking about domestic and sexual violence, Anisul Huq said the government will not tolerate any such incident and be double tough on the violators.

National Human Rights Commission is expected to play due role by informing the government of the incident of rights violation invoking appropriate actions, he said.

About a major shift in the mindset of people amid Covid-19, he said the victims of human rights violations and others affected any way have to be redressed with utmost importance.

Presided over by NHRC Chairman Nasima Begum, the programme was addressed by Sudipto Mukherjee, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, and Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, fulltime member of the human rights commission.
