Bashundhara Kings BFSF U-14 Academy Cup begins

Bangladesh Football Federation Senior Vice-President Abdus Salam Murshedy, MP inaugurates the second edition of Bashundhara Kings BFSF U-14 Academy Cup at the outer ground of Bangabandhu National Stadium in Paltan Maidan on Thursday

The second edition of Bashundhara Kings BFSF U-14 Academy Cup, sponsored by Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Bashundhara Kings and organised by Bangladesh Football Supporters Forum (BFSF), commenced at the outer ground of Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Thursday.

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Senior Vice-President Abdus Salam Murshedy inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.

BFSF President Kazi Shahidul Alam presided over the inaugural function as Tournament Committee Chairman and representative of Bashundhara Kings Iftekhar Rahman Khan delivered the welcome speech.

National Sports Council Secretary Md Masud Karim, BFF General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag, Executive Members Elias Hossain, Zakir Hossain Chowdhury, Hazi Tipu Sultan and Mohidhur Rahman Miraz were also present there.

Nawabganj Football Academy played out a 2-2 goal draw with Pirganj Football Academy in their first match on the opening day while the match between Jalali Football Academy and Horian Football Academy ended in scoreless draw.

This year, a total of 12 teams, split into four groups, will take part in the league basis 9-day meet. Each team will register 20 players. Top team from each group will play semis on December 9 while the final will be held on December 10, all at the same venue. The champions will be awarded Tk 1,00,000 and the runners-up Tk 50,000. Each team will get Tk 5,000 as the participating money.

In the first edition of the meet, Shamsul Huda academy emerged as the defending champions while Spartan MK Gallactico Sylhet FC were the runners-up. Besides, some 180 booters from this competition got chances to play in the different teams of Pioneer Football League organised by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).

This year, some 17 academies initially registered their names for taking part in the competition this year.  Later, the tournament committee selected 12 teams through a lottery. The champions and runners-up teams didn't register as they failed to form their respective teams with the appropriate limited-age players.

BFSF President Kazi Shahidul Alam disclosed the details in a press conference at the meeting room of Dhaka Metropolitan Football League Committee (DMFLC) office in BNS on Saturday. Tournament committee chairman and representative of Bashundhara Kings Iftekhar Rahman Khan, Tournament Committee Member Secretary and BFSF General Secretary Shahdat Hossain Zubayer, BFSF members, captains of 12 participating teams and coaches were also present there.
