4 ‘Hizb ut-Tahrir men’ held in city

Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police in a drive arrested four alleged members of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir Bangladesh from  Kawla Chandartek area under Dakshinkhan Police Station in the capital on Wednesday.

The arrestees were identified as Jahirul Islam Titu, 32, Rashidul Islam alias Hriday, 23, Al Mahmud, 25 and Mujahid, 18.

Confirming the news, ATU inspector Harun Aur Rashid said that the law enforcers conducted the operation based on intelligence information and arrested them from the area.

The ATU members also seized 10 mobile phones, a CPU, a large quantity of extremist books, and leaflets from their possession during the drive, he said.

A case has been filed against the detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Dakshin Khan Police Station.
