An art exhibition titled ‘Baseer: An Eloquent Mind’ is underway at Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Gallery of Bengal Shilpalay in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
Organised by Bengal Foundation, the art works of Bangladesh’s pioneering artist Murtaja Baseer are being displayed at the exhibition.Murtaja Baseer (1932– 2020), considered one of the most influential modern artists of Bangladesh, had established a remarkable command of almost every style and genre of painting throughout his distinguished career, which spanned nearly seven decades.
Ranging from tender portraits to visceral abstracts, lucid figurative to monumental murals; this exhibition is a showcase of Baseer’s astonishing reach. The show is designed along the spine of a long space, and devotes itself to an extensive extract from Baseer’s encyclopaedic archival project, which reflects his deep interest in eastern traditions and western experimentations in modern art.
The archive is comprised of a collection of photographs, letters, sketches, collages, posters and paper cuttings; all of which he had collected and researched for his works throughout his career. The exhibition includes key paintings from several private collections, many of which are being publicly exhibited for the very first time.
Started from October 12, the exhibition will remain open to all everyday from 03:00 to 08:00pm till January 16, 2021. The art show will remain closed on Sundays.
