Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen along with senior officials of the ministry recently visited the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) as part of its efforts to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology across the world.
Science and Technology Minister Architect Yeafesh Osman, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, additional secretaries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), directors general (DGs) and the project director were present.
Communication is being maintained with Russia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through Bangladesh missions in Moscow and Vienna, MoFA said.
IAEA is an international organisation that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons.
Dr Momen said the RNPP is a pride of Bangladesh and it will remain part of Bangladesh's history. He said it is a big achievement for the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
About 14,000 of the total 16,000 people involved in the project are Bangladeshi citizens and they are working skillfully.
It is one of the priority projects of the government, being implemented under the technical and financial assistance of Russia.
Later, the Foreign Minister visited Uttara Gonobhaban with the senior MoFA officials.
He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman upheld the heritage and memory of North Bengal by converting the house into "Uttara Gonobhaban".
