120 passengers of a launch rescued from Padma river

At least 120 passengers of MV Shah Paran launch have been rescued after the bottom line of the launch ruptured by the pipe of a dredger machine at China channel on Kathalbari-Shimulia route of Padma river on Sunday morning.

It is learned that the launch carrying 120 passengers from Majhikandi Ghat heading towards Shimulia in Munshiganj in the morning. At one stage, the launch hit with pipe of the dredger machine when it was crossing Padma channel and its lower part ripped apart in Majhikandi area of Shariatpur at 11:00 am.

Upon receiving the news, BIWTA sent another launch and rescued the passengers safely.

Akhter Hossain, a traffic inspector at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority's (BIWTA) Kanthalbari launch ghat, confirmed the matter.
