A man was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Kaptai area of Rangamati on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Basanta Tongchongya alias Durjoy Tongchongya, 35, was a collector of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) led by Santu Group.

Police and locals said that a group of miscreants shot him when he was talking on his mobile phone at Raikhali union in Karigorpara around 7:30am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandraghona Police Station said the police rushed to the spot to recover the body and are looking to identify the criminals.
