This year’s Durga Puja to be celebrated on limited scale

The government has directed the Hindu community to conduct Durga Puja of this year at a limited number of Puja mandaps due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The directive came from a virtual meeting on Sunday on the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, in the presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, accoding to a press release.

During the five-day long festival, devotees will have to maintain social distance, wear masks and sanitize hands.

Considering the present situation, no processions will be allowed to commemorate the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga.

Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committees across the country have been asked to make necessary arrangements in this regard.

During the celebrations, law enforcers will be deployed in order to ensure safety and security.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of different ministries, directorates and law enforcement agencies.

The Hindu community is set to celebrate Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival, on October 22, amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
