Momen requests Saudi authorities to allow more flights from Dhaka

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has requested his Saudi Arabian counterpart to allow more flights from Dhaka as many Bangladeshi expatriates are still deprived of getting tickets for returning to their workplaces in the middle-eastern country.

The minister came up with the urge during a phone conservation with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al- Saud on Sunday afternoon (local time).

Dr Momen thanked the Saudi foreign minister for extending iqama and visa period for the stranded Bangladeshi expatriates, and for allowing Biman flights to the country.

He also requested to allow Biman to operate flights on Dhaka-Dammam route.

Biman, however, is currently operating flights on Riyadh, Medina and Jeddah of Saudi Arbia.

More than one lakh Bangladeshi expatriates remained stuck here after returning from abroad amid the coronavirus pandemic. Of them, nearly 80 percent are Saudi returnees.
