The country has immense investment potential in fast growing sectors like infrastructure, communications, information technology, healthcare, electricity and energy sectors.
State Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said this at a virtual dialogue on Wednesday“Bangladesh is a country of potential. It achieved 5.24 percent GDP growth in FY20 despite the global Corona pandemic. Its export earnings are also gradually on the rise,” Nasrul said.
US Chamber of Commerce organized the dialogue titled “Bangladesh Forward: The Future of Energy Development and Cooperation.
Despite the presence of companies like Chevron, Accelerate Energy, Exxon Mobil, Helibaton, GE, and other companies, there are opportunities for more than 170 million people to work for American companies in this country, said the minister.
The state minister also said that Bangladesh is going to announce offshore bidding round under Model PSC 2019, adding that American companies are welcome to explore for oil and gas.
The US Chamber of Commerce could make an effective contribution to building a strategic friendship bond on energy security, he said while presenting the keynote paper.
The State Minister also emphasized on mutual communication to enhance the field of cooperation.Senior Vice President of US Chamber of Commerce Nisha Biswal presided over the virtual event.
Addressing the virtual dialogue, Assistant Secretary for Global Markets and Director General, USA Ian Steff said that cooperation in the energy business will be enhanced and internship training programmes can also be undertaken for officers in various fields of power and energy.
Power Secretary Dr. Sultan Ahmed and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R. Miller, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
