Ensure good governance at universities: UGC Chairman

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr. Kazi Shahidullah on Monday urged public universities for ensuring good governance to take the higher education forward in the country.

Stressing on the quality university administration, he said discipline and quality administration can play a vital role in the development of the higher education.

Public varsities run through public money, so proper utilization of resources has to be ensured at the universities, he said, adding that successful implementation of Annual Performance Agreement has to be ensured.

UGC chairman came up with the observations while addressing a signing ceremony at the commission between UGC and 14 public universities of the country in the second phase for fiscal year 2020-2021

UGC signed the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) with the public universities under the Performance Management Framework Policy of the government.

Earlier, in the first phase, Annual Performance Agreement was signed between UGC and 14 public universities for 2020-2021 fiscal year on Sunday.

UGC will sign APA with remaining 18 public universities on Tuesday.

APA has been introduced to enhance transparency and accountability in government activities, ensure proper utilization of resources and improve institutional capacity.

UGC Secretary (Additional Charge) Dr. Ferdous Zaman and registrars of the concerned universities signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations at UGC.

Registrars, focal points of APA from 14 public universities and high officials from UGC, among others, were present on the occasion.
