6 killed as bus hits human hauler in Chuadanga

Six people were killed and four others injured as a night coach rammed a passenger van in Chuadanga Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sohag Ali (25), Sharifuddin (30), Raju Ahmed (45), Kalu (40), Milon Hossain (40) and Sree Shashthi Haldar (42).

The accident took place as a Chuadanga-bound night coach of Royal Express transport service dashed against a battery-run three-wheeler "nosimon" killing three out of eight passengers.

Later, the bus rammed into a number of three-wheelers, motorcycles and pedestrians, claiming three more lives.

The crash occurred at Sarojganj point of Jhenaidah- Chuadanga route, said Abdul Salam, deputy director of Chuadanga Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Locals blocked Chuadanga-Jhenaidah highway protesting the accident and halting vehicular movement for hours.

Kanak Kumar Kanti, additional superintendent of police in Chuadanga, said law enforcers could not arrest the driver and helper who fled the spot.
