Local AL president's two brothers killed in factional clash in Patuakhali

Two brothers of a local Awami League leader were killed and several injured as two groups of local unit of ruling party clashed over establishing supremacy in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali on Sunday night.

The deceased were identified as Ishat, local Jubo League activist and brother of Keshabpur union Awami League president Saleh Uddin Piku and Rumman, 30, Jubo League leader and also cousin of Piku.

Police arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in this clash.

According to locals and police, the casualties were happened when followers of Saleh Uddin Piku, president of Keshabpur union Awami League unit and Mohiuddin Lavlu, general secretary and also the running UP chairman locked into a fierce clash on Sunday evening.

Locals said both groups are supporter of local MP ASM Firoz.

Faruk Hossain, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Patuakhali (Bauphal Circle) said the supporters of Union Awami League president and general secretary (Keshabpur UP chairman) engaged in clash on last Friday over the upcoming Keshabpur UP elections in December. In the continuity of that clash, general secretary Mohiuddin Lavlu’s supporters hacked the president's own brother Juba League leader Ishat and his cousin Rumman and cut their limbs this evening.

Later, locals rescued them and took them to Bauphal Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared both dead.
