Kakrail Lazz Pharma fined Taka 29 lakh

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Monday fined Lazz Pharma’s Kakrail branch Taka twenty-nine lakh for storing unauthorised and date expired medicines during a mobile court drive.

Polash Basu, executive magistrate of RAB-3 conducted the mobile court drive on Monday.

He told media that they seized 76 types of unauthorised foreign drugs and 20 types of expired medicine and injections worth about Tk 50 lakh from the store during a drive. The shop has also tampered with labels to change expiry dates.

The mobile court also found that the trade license of Lazz Pharma’s Kakrail branch expired in 2018, but the store has not renewed it.

Taking all irregularities and misdeed in cognizance, the mobile court slapped that amount of fine under drug act, 1940.

The RAB detained seven people over the seizure. Five of them were fined Tk 500,000 each and the two others Tk 200,000 each.
