The health and family welfare ministry has sought explanation from Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director General (DG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), about his statement over signing an agreement with Regent Hospital for coronavirus treatment services.
“We have asked for explanation from the DG of DGHS about his statement over signing deal with Regent Hospital,” Md Abdul Mannan, secretary of health service division of the health ministry, told the daily sun.He said the DG of DGHS has given a statement to the media, making the health ministry responsible for signing a deal with Regent Hospital for coronavirus treatment services.
Earlier on Saturday, a statement of the DGHS said its Director General (DG) signed the agreement with Regent Hospital to treat Covid-19 patients on the instruction of the Health Ministry.
“Before the agreement, the DGHS DG never met Shahed,” reads the statement by its Assistant Director Md Jahangir Kabir.
Meanwhile, JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury was ‘temporarily suspended’ from the post of registered doctors of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) over the allegation of breaching discipline.
The health ministry sources said she has been suspended from post of the institute on Sunday.
“Earlier, show cause notice was sent to Dr Sabrina. And finally we have sent letter about her suspension from her post, to DGHS around 5:30 today (Sunday),” NICVD director Prof Dr. Mir Jamal Uddin told the daily sun.Dr Sabrina, also cardiac surgeon of the NICVD, was at the same time chairman of the JKG, a non-government business establishment. She is also accused in embezzling money by giving fake certificate of coronavirus test.
Police also on Sunday arrested JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates, police sources said.
Police called Dr Sabrina, wife of JKG Health Care Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury who was arrested earlier for the same allegation, at Tejgaon Police Deputy Commissioner's office around 1:00 pm for interrogation.
