Sirajul Islam, father of absconding Regent Group chairman Md Shahed, died of coronavirus at a hospital in the capital on Thursday night.
He breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Universal Medical College Hospital (formerly Ayesha Memorial Hospital) in Mohakhali at around 9:30pm.
Confirming the news, managing director of the hospital Dr Ashis Kumar Chakraborty said Sirajul Islam was admitted to the hospital on July 4 and he later diagnosed with coronavirus.
He was undergoing treatment at ICU of the hospital but died on Thursday night.
Md Shahed is accused in a case filed on Tuesday after a mobile court found proof that the hospital authorities issued fake Covid-19 certificates and charged patients for test and treatment, violating an agreement with the government.
