Suspected drug peddler killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Matsho ghat in Maheshkhalia Para under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, son of Fajal Ahmmed, hailing from the area.

On a tip off, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive near Marine Drive area at midnight, said Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector (SI) of Teknaf Police Station.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the criminals opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to take action in self defence, he said.

After the gunfight, the drug dealers fled and police recovered the bullet hit body of Kashem and sent to a hospital where duty doctor declared him dead, he said adding that the law enforcers recovered, 10 thousand pieces of Yaba pills and some arms from the spot.
