The government has formed a 15-member committee to work for the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers in the country.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on May 31. Four Terms of Reference (ToR) have been fixed for the committee.

The notification was signed by Cabinet Division deputy secretary Baby Parvin.

From now on, plans have to be prepared for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers before their removal and this committee will prepare that plan, the notification said.

“The committee will take steps after reviewing the matters relating to the necessity of slum eviction, repercussion and humanitarian aspects,” it added.

The other committee members are: the Social Welfare Minister, the Land Minister, the State Minister for Housing and Public Works, the State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief, the Cabinet Secretary and secretaries of the Disaster Management and Relief, Public Security, Railways, Local Government, Roads and Highways Division, Land, Bridges Division, Social Welfare and Public Works.
