Two held with 55kg hemp in Lalmonirhat

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) today seized 55 kilograms (kg) of smuggled ganja and a covered van and arrested two suspected drug traders from Talukbani Nagar in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Saturday.

“An operational team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) of RAB-13 searched the covered van there on the Burimari-Lalmonirhat highway and arrested the drug traders with the smuggled drugs,” a press release said this afternoon.

The elite force seized the covered van and the ganja packed in 11 sacks, three mobile phone sets, three SIM cards and Taka 3,200 in cash from the possessions of the arrested persons.

The arrested persons are: driver of the covered van Md. Tareq Mollah, 27, of village Natiya Bari and its helper Md. Akram Sheikh, 20, of village Shibpur under Aminpur police station of Pabna district.

During interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they had been tactfully carrying smuggled ganja frequently on board the covered van from Barokhata area in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat to other parts of the country, the release added.

After filing a case in this connection, the elite force handed over the arrested persons and the seized goods to Kaliganj police station in Lalmonirhat.
