Three more die of coronavirus, death toll now 12 in Bangladesh

Three more people have died of coronavirus in Bangladesh, taking the total death toll in the country to 12, said IEDCR in an online press briefing on Monday.

However, 35 more people have been tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 123, it added.

This is the biggest jump in positive tests over a 24-hour period since Bangladesh announced its first cases on March 8.

Earlier on the day, Health Minister Zahid Maleque in an online media briefing said four more people died of coronavirus and confirmed 29 new cases.

The health minister advised people to follow rules of quarantine and social distancing seriously to avoid a catastrophic situation as seen in Europe.

The minister acknowledged that the return of RMG workers to the capital amid the coronavirus crisis is indeed a terrible act.

The global death toll from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reached 69,480 as of Monday.

The virus, first reported in China, has so far infected 1,274,346 people around the world, according to worldometer.
