One more people have died of coronavirus, taking the total death toll in the country to nine, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said in an online media briefing on Sunday.
However, eighteen more people have been tested positive in Bangladesh for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 88, it added.This is the biggest jump in positive tests over a 24-hour period since Bangladesh announced its first cases on March 8.
Three others have returned home after recovery in the last 24 hours raising the total of recovered patients to 33.
The health minister advised people to follow rules of quarantine and social distancing seriously to avoid a catastrophic situation as seen in Europe.
The minister acknowledged that the return of RMG workers to the capital amid the coronavirus crisis is indeed a terrible act.
"This is in no way good in the current situation. We will make sure that this type of incident does not occur again...BGMEA, BKMEA is not under the Health Directorate so we cannot control their actions," he said.
The global death toll from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) reached 64,716 as of Sunday.The virus, first reported in China, has so far infected 1,201,933 people around the world, according to worldometer.
The infected, 890,583 are currently being treated while 42,290 of them are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 246,634 of those infected have recovered.
